Cao Guimarães
COR AÇÃO. Chapter II.
09.01.23 → 31.03.23
Our new Cinema Room episode is dedicated to the magical oeuvre of Cao Guimarães, an artist of Brazilian origine who works on the crossing between cinema and visual arts. In the first chapter, we would like to share with you three films which explore the poetics of hypnotic movements and sounds : Quarta-Feira de Cinzas (2006), Hypnosis (2001) and Peiote (2007).
Quarta-Feira de Cinzas
6'
“Quarta-Feira de Cinzas” transports us to a moment after Carnival, when, in the melancholy sunset of Ash Wednesday, the ants begin their profane, multicolored party, to the rhythm of samba in a matchbox.
HYPNOSIS
7' 30"
In this video, the illusion of an hypnosis emerges from the serenity of a geometrical succession of forms. In this geometrical ‘mini-drama’ the pathos is created by colors in movement and the languorous and repetitive beat of a piano.
PEIOTE
4'
Here, a child possessed by a hybrid entity (Mexican wrestling and Japanese super heroes) offers the counter-dance to the ancestral Indians.
