Xippas is pleased to present a special limited edition “Mineur Mineur” (2023) by Bertille Bak.
From her project “Mineur Mineur” (2022), which has received widespread institutions and critics acclaim, this numbered and signed by the artist box set includes film stills from the five synchronized videos that make up the installation.
Filmed in five countries, this project addresses the theme of child labor in mines: in India for coal, in Indonesia for tin, in Thailand for gold, in Bolivia for silver, and in Madagascar for sapphires. Marked by the contrast between the apparent lightness of children’s play and the harsh reality that robs these young workers of their childhood, this work bears the characteristic traits of Bertille Bak’s work. The artist sheds light on invisible communities while transforming reality into a fable played, quite literally, by the same protagonists.
The entire benefit from the sale of the box set will be used to finance Bertille Bak’s new project for the Marcel Duchamp Prize, which will be presented at the Centre Pompidou starting from October 4, 2023. This is a unique opportunity to acquire an artwork by Bertille Bak and actively support her project.
“Mineur Mineur” (2022) project was conceived by Bertille Bak during her residency at the Pinault Collection in Lens between 2019 and 2020. It was produced with the support of the Fondation des Artistes, the Institut Français, of La Criée art center in Rennes, which showed it in January 2022.
The same year, the installation was presented at the Merz Foundation in Turin, following Bertille Bak’s awarding of the 2019 Mario Merz Prize, and at Paris + by Art Basel at the Xippas booth.
It is currently visible at the Louvre Lens, as part of “Power Coron” exhibition dedicated to Bertille Bak, until September 25.
