Exhibition at La Barre – L’ici et l’ailleurs

Kevin Rouillard participates to the 2024 edition of the Anglet Biennale with a new body of works, a site-specific installation Horizon : 1 000 blocs, 6 couleurs, 2024 realized especially for the occasion.

The installation consists of approximately 1,000 steel barrels mechanically compressed to form colored metal discs and stacked to shape columns. This industrial material thus gives rise to a primary sculptural gesture. The approach raises questions both architecturally and in its relationship to the maritime environment, facing the Adour. Ephemeral and previously unpublished, this large format work is situated at La Barre, the meeting point of the ocean and the mouth of the Adour and confronts the immensity of the Atlantic.

Almost like a ready-made, this industrial waste metamorphoses into an elementary form of art history. This work consists of creating a signal which encourages strolling along the promenade of the mouth. It also prompts reflection on these elements of packaging and transport that are inseparable from our globalized world and the need for their recycling.
