Petros Chriostomou photographs miniature environments that he creates with objects or garbage from his daily life. Chewing gum, coca cola caps, coins, vegetation and trash are put together in a miniature space, as a dollhouse, representing a house’s interior or a kind of exhibition space to form strange sculptures.
Once photographed, those constructions are enlarged, producing a new scale relation in order to accentuate the strange nature of these layouts.
This simulacra universe questions mischievously the relations between social class and taste, while challenging interpretation.
It will be the young artist’s first solo exhibition.
Born in London in 1981, Petros Chrisostomou holds a degree from the Central St. Martins School of Art and Design and from the Royal Academy. He has participated to several group exhibitions: Baroque my World presented by Jenny Lomax at the Transition Gallery in 2006, Bloomberg New Contemporaries in 2004 organized by the Liverpool Biennale and the Barbican Center in London, and at the 291 Gallery.
