Released in early April 2024, this new book “Bertille Bak: Faux et usage de faux” is based on Bertille Bak’s two exhibitions in Rennes: “Dark-en-ciel” (2022) at La Criée centre d’art contemporain and “Le mouton est dans le salon” (The sheep is in the living room) (2022) designed by students in the Métiers et arts de l’exposition master’s programme.
The first show revealed her new video installation Mineur Mineur (2022).
The second presented a dialogue between 3 video projects by Bertille Bak: Boussa from the Netherlands (2017), Le Hameau (2014), Traquenard (2014), co-realised with Charles-Henry Fertin. This projects sought to explore the confrontation between the reality of capitalist exploitation and the use of the world of the child’s imagination, and its sometimes unreal and fantastical dimension in Bertille Bak’s work. They also highlighted the artist’s use of artifice and “bricolage” to mask and accentuate a tragic contemporary reality.
The book contains texts by : Baptiste Brun, Jean-Marc Chapoulie, Christophe David, Monique Jeudy-Ballini, Sophie Kaplan
and a conversation between Bertille Bak and Laurent Jeanpierre.
