Kevin Rouillard’s Extrait (Tôle, Choc) (1), part of the Frac Nouvelle-Aquitaine MÉCA collection, is featured in the group exhibition Primavera Primavera at the Frac Meca, Bordeaux. The work embodies his exploration of material, transformation, and resilience. Created from recycled metal containers originally used for cargo shipment to Cape Verde, where part of the artist’s family comes from and where these containers are reused by the local population for daily needs, the piece reflects cycles of consumption and reinvention. Flattened, burned, hammered, and stretched onto a frame, the work captures the physicality of these successive actions, confronting viewers with their raw intensity. The result is a striking composition that blurs the line between sculpture and painting, evoking the aesthetics of Color Field painting while remaining deeply rooted in process and materiality.
The exhibition explores the concerns, aspirations, and struggles of a new artistic generation facing a rapidly changing world. Through works drawn from the Frac Nouvelle-Aquitaine MÉCA collection, alongside special commissions, Primavera, Primavera reflects on environmental, social, and political transformations without offering predetermined answers—allowing the artworks to speak through their gestures, tensions, and forms
