Winner of the FCAC’s 2023 curatorial grant, Marjolaine Lévy has mounted the Maison témoin exhibition at the Villa Dutoit in Petit-Saconnex (Geneva), which illustrates her singular view of the FCAC’s collection of works.
Marjolaine Lévy holds a doctorate in contemporary art history from Paris-Sorbonne University (Paris IV), is an art critic and teaches art history at EESAB (Rennes) and EnsAD (Paris). She is the author of numerous studies of contemporary artists and has curated many exhibitions.
The “Maison témoin” exhibition takes visitors on a tour of the Villa Dutoit, between reality and fiction, as it becomes the setting for a collection. Based on remarkable works from Geneva’s FCAC, the exhibition offers a glimpse into the interior of an imaginary collector.
A peaceful atmosphere emanates from this place, as the work on the wall in the entrance seems to announce, on which the public can read “still life”. However, the apparent tranquility seems somewhat disturbed: in the hall, the watchdog is pink, while a tricycle has blades on its wheels and the guitar in the living room has lost its curves to become square. A “Maison témoin” which, beneath its apparent tranquility, reveals, through its works, a “disquieting strangeness” fed by the ghost of the collector whose silhouette appears in the reflection of a mirror [Text by Marjolaine Lévy].
